1 in a Million

Have you ever heard the phrase “Don’t worry the chances of anything going wrong are one in a million”? This is a statistic used to comfort and to subside fear, especially in the case of waiting on test results. For a particular family though, it is not just any statistic. With a 1 in 80 million chance, Kruz and Paizlee Davenport were both diagnosed with a disease called Schimke Immuno-Osseous Dysplasia (SIOD). SIOD is a VERY rare form of dwarfism which comes along with renal failure, vascular problems and a weakened immune system. It is a fatal disease with no cure. Children with SIOD will have to have a kidney transplant and yet still have a life expectancy of only 9-11 years.

There are only around 50 known cases of this disease in the world, with only 5 being in the United States. Kruz is “number 4” and now Paizlee, the youngest to be diagnosed ever, is "number 5". They are the first sibling set in the country. I believe this makes them very special and know that God has an amazing plan for this family.

The Davenports have chosen to take their situation and shed a light on the illness by spreading the word and doing their absolute best to raise money for research along with awareness. They don’t let statistics and life expectancy stop them from fighting every day to find a cure for their kids and for the cause. They have put $500,000 into Stanford for research and need to send $30,000 monthly in order to keep the research going. Imagine the pain a parent must endure to hear that they have to raise a certain amount of money for their kids to have a chance at a longer life. The Davenports deserve all the prayers and support that anyone can give. This family shows what the true meaning of faith and strength means.  Kruz is already facing his first battle, in complete kidney failure. All of us here at Top Thread are determined to help make a difference, but we need your help to make that possible. That’s why we have created Top Love. It’s a way for all of us to give back.
